Yeah, Paul Budnitz’s bikes might cost $5,500 apiece, but the spc sheet reads like a laundry list of all your fantasy bike parts. The bike looks and feels like a cross between a beach-cruiser, a hard-tail mountain bike and a hipsters’ single-speed.

The Guardian’s Bike Blog has a pretty solid piece on the art of cycling on film; highlighting Cyclescreen’s 2nd successful year of hosting new & classic films focused on cycling.
Cycling and art have a long history. For Toulouse-Lautrec, track racing in 1890’s Paris was an essential part of the city’s vivid twilight. Duchamp’s bicycle wheel is a powerful symbol: like his Fountain (the urinal), it is both everyday and a little bit subversive.
Since its invention, the bike has stoked the passion of diverse artists, some for the circus hustle of the race, others the egalitarian potency of the original and best mass transport. Last week’s Cyclescreen 2011, a bicycle film festival enjoying a successful second year at the Watershed in Bristol, presented exciting new work and some of the best classic cycling films.

Here’s Step 1:
Step 1: As any marketer will tell you, you need to understand your target audience. Are you going to be surrounded by East London hipsters on fixies with barely-there handlebars or are you more South/South-West suits and mountain bike combos? Clearly a tailored approach is required. I would never normally encourage conformity, but with a sport with such clearly delineated tribes (ref: Bike Snob), some degree of tribal identification will help your cause. Personally, I tend to favour a mini-skirt/Converse option, which gives me access to a range of groups.

Loving these creative business card from Broke Bike Alley in in British Columbia. I want one!

There designs are so spectacular that a Google search of “Broke Bike Alley” turns up a handful of links to design sites highlighting their business card design. Takes a bit of sifting to actually get to THEIR site.
